Where Does Kambo Come From?

Giant Green Monkey Tree Frog

Kambo is the secretion of the Giant Green Monkey Tree Frog who lives in the rain forests of the Upper Amazon. They live high up in the trees and are mainly nocturnal. Traditionally, Kambo was used to cleanse, strengthen, and energize the minds and bodies of the hunters. The hunters believed they would be invisible to the animals they were hunting. It was also used as medicine. Lastly, it was used to clear away dark or negative energy. The Coboclo people developed new traditions for taking Kambo. The most well-known is taking Kambo 3 times in a moon cycle (28 days).

Some of the tribes working with Kambo are: Amahuaca, Kaxinawa, Katukina, Kulina, Yawanawa, Matses, Marubo, Nukini, and Mayoruna. Kambo is harvested soon after dawn where the tribespeople sing and imitate the frogs’ song. Kambo frogs are very passive and do not react negatively when carefully picked up, possibly due to the fact they have few to no predators. The frog is carefully tied by each leg. Sometimes a female Shaman will massage the frog’s toes to encourage the secretion to flow. It is carefully scraped off and dried on small sticks. When properly harvested only the first secretion is taken. This leaves the frog with sufficient secretion should he need to defend himself. The frog is then released back into his habitat. The white string leaves a tiny white line on each leg, which will indicate that he has already blessed his harvesters with the secretion he was willing to give. These white lines fade within 2-3 months, indicating that he is ready to give again.

What Is Kambo?

The Science Of Kambo

Scientists have shown that the Kambo secretion contains a unique and highly complex cocktail of Bioactive Peptides. Despite pharmaceutical companies’ attempts to create synthetic versions of the peptides found in Kambo, the naturally occurring peptides from the secretion of this beautiful Giant Green Monkey Tree Frog many times, still outperforms the synthetic version. Peptides carry signals between the glands and cells to control body functions such as sleep and blood sugar regulation. Kambo contains many bioactive peptides, so when Kambo enters the body, the cell receptors open and allow it to enter the cells. As a natural substance that the body recognizes, it unlocks to Kambo at a cellular level with no stress to the cells. It also cleans out deposits left in the cells by foreign substances that the cell was not able to process alone. Below are the peptides that have so far been identified in Kambo: PHYLLOMEDUSIN, PHYLLOLITORIN, DERMORPHIN, SAUVAGINE, DELTORPHIN, TRYPTOPHYLLINS, PHYLLOCAERULEIN, PHYLLOKININ, DERMASEPTIN.
